Members of the Ladies Bath Cycling Club completed a three stage ride from Brighton to Bath this month stopping for one night in Romsey, Dorchester and finally back home to Bath. After a Royal Hearty Breakfast at the Grand Hotel we started along the seafront on the Citys’ excellent cycle path towards Romsey.
There was beautiful sunshine all the way across Sussex into Romsey and again through the New Forest, the beauitful Ornamental Route and the Dorset Jurassic coast.
All trips have some diversions and we had unexpected adventures on the way – an unplanned bit of cyclo cross on day 1… blocked M.O.D. road on day 2 and blocked roads around Dorchester for an Iron Man event all added to the challenge ( we ended up on the triathlon route being cheered along the way!) Our Capable Captain Claire used her negotiating skills to help us gatecrash part of the cycle route of the Weymouth Half Ironman.
We had beauitful coffee stops along the way, chatting and put into good use some chain gang riding when possible.
For the most part we avoided the rain and cycled back to Bath with over 220 miles in our legs. We could not have asked for better weather and are planning to go through the alphabet on where we can cycle from next!!
All of this would not have been possible without the support of David O. who brought or bikes to Brighton and Gio who gave up his weekend to provide luggage support, Hiliary who organised the the whole weekend and compiled the routes with Claire and Julia. A very big Thank You to you all.
